WSCONA In-Person Legislator Forum on Wednesday (Sept. 2, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.)

Dear WSCONA members,

Please don’t forget that this coming Wednesday (Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m.) is our In-Person Legislator Forum.  State legislators will attend, answer our questions, and meet with you. It will be at the Don Newton Center (Taylor Ranch Community Center—4900 Kachina NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120).  We are looking for a large turnout and your presence and input is crucial.

Note, refreshments will be served.  Here’s the list of legislators who have accepted our invitation:

Representatives: Chavez, Gurrola, Little, and Roybal Caballero with Borrego and Garratt on zoom (they are at a Legislative Finance Committee meeting in Alamogordo)

Senators: Block, Duhigg, Lopez, Maestas and Pope

1. Given the potential impacts of data centers on water, energy, land use, and surrounding communities, will you support a temporary moratorium?

2. New Mexico residents often find it difficult to use the Secretary of State's system to understand who is financing campaigns. Would you support comprehensive campaign- finance reforms that make disclosure more transparent, accessible, and understandable to the public?

3. Do you support increasing the length of legislative sessions?

4. Recent legislative proposals have sought greater statewide uniformity in zoning standards. WSCONA believes local governments should retain substantial authority over zoning because they are closest to community conditions and priorities. Do you support preserving local zoning authority?

5. WSCONA is advocating for a West Side recreational corridor to ensure residents have access to open space and that culturally sacred areas are preserved. Will you join and support our efforts?

6. Will you commit to meeting with WSCONA membership again?
